A Day Of Awards!
The living room is the stage. Foil on a cardboard tube is a trophy. A ribbon and a bottlecap is a medal. Categories are the whole fun: Best Blanket Consultant, Loudest Laugh, Keeper of the Last Cookie, Captain of the Snack Pause.
Write a certificate, call a name, cheer and celebrate! The ceremony is the game, and every given award is real for the rest of the afternoon.
Set the Stage
- A table is the podium. A couch is the audience. A wooden spoon is the microphone if you have a host.
- Share one pile of foil, cardboard, and scrap paper so every trophy starts equally.
- A paper certificate that says Awards Ceremony Day! Gold crayon borders welcome.
- Invent a category for each person — a true, sometimes funny job they already do. Keep the favorite trophy on the shelf until the next showing.
Tonight’s Honors
- The Speech — ten seconds of glory. Everyone cheers the line that sounds most like the winner.
- The Walk — a slow parade from the hallway to the podium. Smoothest flourish wins a quiet ooh.
- The Photo — trophies in a row, empty of people, for the family museum.
- Inventor’s Award — one extra category that can look absolutely ridiculous. It still has to belong to someone in the room, which makes the victory even sweeter.
Stage Life
- Everyone sits facing the podium together, one name at a time.
- Give each award its moment of glory before the next envelope opens.
- If any costume parts take a nap toward the floor, that’s a wardrobe pause. Laugh, then put it on even prouder.
Honorable Mentions
After the last clap, take the day’s favorite trophy — or favorite category — and give some commentary on how the awards went. Make it memorable!
