The hallway takes a frame
The hallway is the alley. Empty bottles are the pins. A rolled-up sock is the ball. Tape on the floor draws the lane, and you roll from a sit or a kneel at the start — a game that stays on the ground.
Count the pins that dance. Reset the row. The whole match can last as long as a song.
Lay the Lane
- Pick a hallway or a stretch of kitchen floor with room beside the tape, so people sit at the start and walk around the alley.
- Six bottles or cartons in a gentle row. A little water in each bottle helps them stand if you want a sturdier forest.
- Spell Sock Bowling! in painter’s tape if you want a marquee. Blue tape on a bright floor is plenty.
- Roll the sock underhand along the lane. Every player gets three rolls. Keep the favorite sock for the next frame.
Frames
- Pin Count — however many bottles wobble or rest is the cheer of that roll.
- Soft Strike — a roll so gentle the whole row nods together. Smoothest hush wins a quiet ooh.
- Story Frame — the sock is a comet, a bug, a train. Funniest true-feeling line while it rolls wins a laugh.
- Inventor’s Pin — one extra bottle that can look absolutely ridiculous. It still has to stand in the row, which makes the victory even sweeter.
Alley Life
- Everyone watches from the start of the lane or the sides, with a clear view of the pins.
- One roller at a time — give each sock its moment of glory.
- If a bottle tours into the kitchen, that’s a visiting pin. Laugh, then set it back in the forest even prouder.
